Ben Mizen has been involved in education and training since starting out as an undergraduate at the College of St. Paul and St Mary in 1989. Initially training and working as a primary class teacher he then moved into informal education and youth work. Working for Youth for Christ, the Anglican Church and The Boys’ Brigade, he designed and delivered therapeutic programmes to meet the needs of young people and training courses to equip leaders.
Between 2005 and 2018 he was an adviser in Youth & Children’s work developing policy, programme and training both regionally and at a nationally. During this time, he further developed his interests in creative teaching methods, disruptive forces, social enterprise, generational theory and coaching. In 2018 he founded Ideas Alchemy. He also lectures part-time in the School of Business, Law & Communications at Solent University, where he focuses on enterprise, creativity and innovation.
What we do:
Ideas Alchemy uses the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method as a creative process to enhance innovation and business performance.
Research shows that hands-on, minds-on learning produces a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world and its possibilities.
This method deepens reflection and supports effective dialogue for all participants. Its an innovative, experimental process designed to enhance innovation and business performance.
In disruptive times the same old solution or process simply doesn’t deliver like it used to. When organisational challenges don't have clear and immediate solutions, leaders need to think differently about their role, strategy and team.
At Ideas Alchemy we work with clients to help them see and think about their world differently. Using playful techniques, including LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY and gamification, we help organisations find the right questions to unlock potential, gain new perspectives, get fresh ideas, take new approaches and develop adaptive process that see problems solved.
At Ideas Alchemy we believe that taking time to reflect on plans, projects, strategies and work culture helps organisations on the journey to being better at what they do. Simply taking some time out to reflect is a precious but rarely achieved activity!
Shared conversations, meaningful questions and reflective insights lie at the heart of what we do. We believe that teams/organisations know what they need to do to improve but sometimes lack the “shared” space to do this. At Ideas Alchemy we create learning spaces where these essential encounters and activities can take place for you.
Ideas Alchemy consults and works alongside teams and projects at all levels within organisations.
We take time to work with your team or project group to build trust, develop deeper understanding and share learning. We endeavour to create a sense of identity, clarity and purpose that will sustain and guide your work together.
Using cutting edge techniques to give honest, balanced feedback we provide insights that have impact.
Whether it’s a vision, organisation/team values, a particular project or a process, we provide a generous and creative process for evaluation.
Experience and learn about this amazing method that gets people of all ages thinking, talking and listening to each other.

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshops
Ideas Alchemy facilitates workshops with leadership and staff teams, who want to experience LSP and also focus on a specific challenge within their tea e.g. analysing and exploring solutions related to collaboration, work place culture, leadership or team values.
LSP is a great tool to develop new strategy - for a whole business or parts of your organisation. Through simple model that use metaphors and stories, new goals and strategies are developed on the table right in front of you.
Organisations are increasingly challenged on how to be transparent, open and effective with their resources. We use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® to understand the present strengths, challenges and surrounding context faced by organisations. This enables us to then construct an outline and definite elements for the organisation moving forward to consider.
